I call these things works which embody a feeling of urgency. I have tried to freeze in sculpture the “single moment” of the objects, objects which may never again be seen in precisely these states.

Something which will never henceforward be seen in that particular size, color, vitality, freshness - the urgency to sculpt, while there is time, the form, shape, discomfort and struggle it has at that moment; to this end I have hastily brought to bear all my resources, and the result is the present exhibition.
