Galeri Apel generally takes its themes from daily life, and for earlier biennials has realized exhibitions entitled “The Street” (1999), “The Poet’s Garden” (2003), “Neighbor” (2005) and “The Reading Corner” (2009). This year, to parallel the 11th International Istanbul Biennial, it is holding a group exhibition called “Group and Solo Songs,” which juxtaposes different voices and stances to reflect the policy of the gallery.

Group and Solo Songs is an old radio program which was important in recent Turkish history, one which set its stamp on an era before television became widespread, which engraved itself on the memory of a certain generation; a program which featured Turkish Art Music sung both chorally and by soloists. In this group exhibition, whose name is taken from that program but which avoids the pitfall of nostalgia, Galeri Apel offers brand new works which stress being together and being on one’s own: “group and solo songs!”In this show you can enjoy the works of Sena Arcak, Cem Aydoğan, Aydan Baktır, Bayram Candan, Şakir Gökçebağ, Can Göknil, Aslımay Altay Göney, Güler Güngör, Barış Koçanoğlu, Kurucu Koçanoğlu, Sevil Koçanoğlu, Suzy Hug Levy, Emre Senan, Maria Sezer, Zeynep Perinçek Signoret, Elif Süsler, Yıldız Şermet, Esma Paçal Turam, Hande Varsat ve Y. Bahadır Yıldız.
