“…But our brain is now a natural piling machine. From the moment we are born it piles everything up.Names, things, memories…Grudges, loves, angers, regrets…Musical notes, letters of the alphabet, symbols…Our brain is a storage dump. All knowledge and information goes there, needed or not.None of it is discarded.

It is compressed, classified.Arranged in order. That is, piled up.This is a vast archive.Drawersful, filesful, cabinetsful of information is put here.Depending on your skill and talent, you go in and out of this dump. Some create paranoia from it, some genius.Writers and murderers are fed by it.When hunting, you make use of this information; or when grousing…To understand how adept our brain is at piling upjust remember the far reaches of dreams…”Gökhan AkçuraThe artist was born in 1977, and since 2003 has been working with Galeri Apel, where she has held four solo exhibitions. She has also held three such exhibitions abroad, as well as participating in numerous international exhibitions and projects, and has received a number of awards. In her eighth solo exhibition, Aslımay Altay Göney points to something beyond mere accumulation, as with ink stains and cut-out paper she conveys the states of piling up. The exhibition, “İSTİF // PILED UP”, will be on view at Galeri Apel as of 21 January.
