The second of Idil Akbostancı’s solo exhibitions “White Cloth,” which she conceived as a series, will be on view at Gallery Apel between 02 - 30 March 2013.In her works Akbostancı explores the alienation between urbanites and nature. She composes her works using the expressive possibilities of textile materials.

Through the textile landscapes in her show “white cloth-II” she proposes new ideational processes. In the white panoramic depictions in her exhibition, or the excerpts from nature in the sequential series of canvases, one notes the lofty mountain ranges that evoke a feeling of distance. In these works, while Akbostancı forms realities about alienated nature using textile, at the same time she renders them invisible by transforming them into a white cloth thus inviting the viewer into a new experiential environment. While the interaction between viewer and artwork is reinforced by landscapes devoid of any human beings or anything manmade, realistic depictions left colorless and empty become areas open to individual associations. The exhibition enables us to distance ourselves from our own realities and build other, personalized realities around the composition before us.Idil Akbostancı was born in 1968 in Zonguldak. She studied in the Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts and the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design. She currently teaches in the Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Textile Arts. Akbostancı has taken part in many art and design events in Turkey and abroad.
