’Gamze Taşdan's interest in popular culture of her college years has always been a priority in her artistic works. In her second solo show 'called to the stage' at Gallery Apel, Taşdan concentrates on gazino culture and its extravagant visual culture, which has a considerable impact on today's entertainment scene.

Gazino refers to a kind of nightclub in Turkish, offering a show crowned by Turkish music stars. Thanks to his radical stance on the stage Zeki Müren, and women singers competing to become a head star are the main characters of this colorful world, which existed from 1960s to late 1980s. Taşdan reproduces these popular figures through their own images and brings forth the esthetic codes of that period.
