If thought of alone with nothing to compare it with, the word'silence'--just like other concepts pointing to the lack ofsomething--is not easy to apprehend or deal with. A more convenient andunderstandable definition for silence may be found in our world ofperception, conveyed by the words 'the pause between two sounds' ratherthan 'the lack of sounds.'
The lack of sounds makes sound audible--andvice-versa. The same phenomenon goes for other gates of our perception:Light and darkness, emptiness and matter, speed and motionlessness makeeach other understandable, and this way they exist. The balance betweenthem makes the world perceptible and livable for us.But in the cities where we live today, this balance does no longerexist. Today, sound--or even noise--is declared the grand winner oversilence, concrete over empty space, neon light over the starlight of thenight. Maybe there lies the reason of this deep restlessness which we,the city crowds, feel..In my work I approached 'silence' as an element of balance, and I triedto recreate the silent mood of a forest. The works in the exhibition are mainly made of porcelain, paper-clay,and glazeless low-temperature ceramics
